For the KVOST SchauFenster, Nona Inescu presents a new body of work entitled Offerings.
The works reference Tamata votives – metal representations of human beings and objects related to human life. In Modern Greek, the word τάμα (tama) refers to an offering, usually directed to a particular deity, in reciprocation for the granting of a favor. It is a promise in the form of a prospective offer, entered into when a person or their close kin are in danger or sickness, or an act of thanksgiving afterward. As these life-size votive offerings dominate the window display, they beckon spectators to reconsider and re-evaluate the significance of ritualistic gestures in a world constantly evolving and redefining its spiritual landscape.
